Nursing services at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan have been disrupted as nurses joined the ongoing nationwide strike declared by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).

The industrial action, which began on Monday, July 29, 2025, follows the expiration of a 15-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government over unresolved welfare and professional issues affecting nurses across the country.
Speaking with newsmen, Mrs. Funmilayo Faminu, Chairperson of the UCH chapter of NANNM confirmed the hospital’s full compliance with the strike directive after a closed-door meeting with union members. She described the decision as “unanimous and necessary,” citing years of government inaction.
The nurses’ demands include the immediate gazetting of the revised 2016 Nurses’ Scheme of Service, implementation of a National Industrial Court judgment delivered on January 27, 2012, and a comprehensive review of professional allowances.
They are also calling for the urgent recruitment of more nursing staff and significant improvements to healthcare infrastructure nationwide.
