We haven’t suspended Mass Protest-NLC

Mr. Joe Ajaero, President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has dismissed reports that the Union has called off the mass protest slated Wednesday, August 2, urging workers and Nigerians to disregard the claim.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday evening,the NLC President, affirmed the decision of the union to embark on the nationwide protest.

Mr. Ajaero, said the outcome of the engagement of the union with the federal government has not changed its plan on protest adding that six demands of the union remains the reasons for its planned action.

The demands include: Immediate implementation in good faith of the resolution with Congress jointly signed with the government and TUC, immediate reversal of all anti-poor policies of the government including the recent hike in PMS prices, school fees and VAT, fixing of local refineries in Portharcourt, Warri and Kaduna.

Others are releasing of 8 months withheld salaries of the university lecturers and workers, giving appropriate recognition and support for the Presidential Steering Committee and the work of its sub-committee and putting a stop to inhuman actions and policies of government.
