The management of University of Lagos (UNILAG) has said it remained opened to dialogue over resolving the lingering issue of school fees hike.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the University Management over a proposed meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) with a view to resolving the imbroglio surrounding fee increase in the school.
In the statement titled: “We Remain Open To Dialogue”, the university management vowed its commitment to continue engagement with stakeholders on the upward adjustment of obligatory fee.
The management also added that it noted that cancellation of NANS’s protest which was planned for today, Wednesday, saying that it is optimistic towards resolving all disputes through engagement.
It could be recalled that UNILAG management in July 2023, increased fees citing “prevailing economic realities” as a reason for the hike.
The management of the institution has increased the tuition fee from N19,000 to N100,750 for students who are offering programmes that do not require a laboratory and studio.
The statement disclosed that the new fee is fixed at N190,250 for students studying medicine, while students offering courses that require laboratory and studio will pay N140, 250.
Meanwhile, students have been kicking again the astronomical hike with several protests led by the NANS leadership.
