The Lagos State government has absolved itself of the planned demolition of a complex belonging to the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA).
It was earlier reported that the State government had served a 24-hour quit notice on all the traders at shopping complex in Computer Village in Ikeja.
According to reports, the vacation order notices were pasted on shops at the complex by the Lagos task force, raising tension among the traders.
Reacting in a statement released on Sunday, Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information & Strategy, described reports linking the state government to the planned demolition as fake news.
The statement reads, “Lagos State Government has nothing to do with the demolition at Computer Village in Ikeja. The structure is owned by the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), which ordered its demolition.
“Those circulating the fake news that Lagos State Government is demolishing Computer Village are opportunistic ethnic chauvinists who will always relish in vacuous propaganda that can fuel their fiendish mission; they will always fail in dividing Lagosians.”
