Chief Sunday Olurotimi Oduntan, President General, Abeokuta Grammar School Old Boy’s Association,(AGSOBA) has explained the reason why his administration embarked on perimeter fencing project saying the move was to secure the school,Staff and students.
He made the disclosure while addressing a Press Conference to herald the 114th Founder’s Day Anniversary programme in Abeokuta,Ogun State Capital.
” The School association is the Oldest in Nigeria with Reverend Isreal Oludotun Ransom-Kuti as the first student of Abeokuta Grammar School,he later became Principal was also the first President General of AGSOBA”,he said.
Chief Oduntan who is the 8th President-General noted that in the last one year,Old students of the School had donated generously to ensure the fencing of the 72 acres of land which part of it has been encroached upon adding that the Association will do everything possible to reclaim their land which his meant to house different projects.
The four-day event with the theme: Breaking the Yoke of Drugs, Rituals and Cultism amongst Secondary School Students will see the alumni association commission a couple of projects, recognize outstanding Old Boys, induct the latest set of graduating students into the Agsoba family as well as hold her annual General Meeting.
The anniversary celebration which started with a press conference on 13th July will run till 17th July,2022 with different activities. Other activities include a Valedictory Service and Call to Agsoba, Staff Appreciation Dinner, Anniversary Lecture, a social Variety Night and the Annual General Meeting .Various projects in the school would be commissioned while an Anniversary Dinner rounds up proceedings. Special Jumaat and Thanksgiving Services make up the rest of the events.
Abeokuta Grammar School was established 114 years ago in Abeokuta and has produced a long list of distinguished old students including businessman, and traditional ruler, Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, the Osile of Oke ona Egba; popular Afro beat Singer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, his brothers, legendary paediatricain Professor Olikoye Ransome-Kuti and Beko Anikulapo-Kuti; Professor Olufemi Peters,Vice Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria; Mr Tunde Kelani, ace filmmaker; Retd Air Vice Marshal Al-Amin Daggash, former Chief of Defence Staff; Hon. Lanre Laoshe, former member, Federal House of Representatives;Daniel Anidugbe aka Kizz Daniel,popular afrobeats artist amongst others.
