President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

Aliyu replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who resigned his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a related development, the President also approved the renewal of the appointment of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term. Both appointments take immediate effect.
Before his appointment, Professor Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy Adult and Non Formal Education. He is regarded as a seasoned academic and administrator with vast experience in research, education, and institutional leadership.
The Presidency said his appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening institutions within the petroleum sector and enhancing human capacity development in Nigeria’s energy industry. He is expected to reposition the PTDF to drive innovation and provide strategic support to the oil and gas sector.
Meanwhile, the renewal of Abdulaziz’s tenure followed an assessment of his performance in leading the nation’s transmission network. Under his leadership, the TCN has recorded improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and system modernisation.
With over three decades of experience in the power sector, Abdulaziz has also played a key role in regional electricity integration through his involvement in the West African Power Pool.
President Tinubu urged both appointees to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and commitment to national service in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
