The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and motorcycle snatchers, while also recovering a firearm, suspected vandalised items, and a vehicle in separate operations across the state.

The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Yemi John Oyeniyi, said the arrests were part of ongoing proactive measures to rid the state of criminal elements.

In the first operation, operatives of the Agbor Division arrested two suspects, identified as Julius Godday, 31, and Mzemeke Peter, 28, during a stop-and-search patrol at College Junction in Agbor on March 31, 2026.

Police said the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting officers but were apprehended after a brief chase. A search conducted on them led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun loaded with two live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are allegedly members of the Eiye confraternity and are linked to a series of motorcycle snatching incidents in the area. They have reportedly confessed and are currently in custody, with the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba for further investigation and possible prosecution.

In a separate incident, operatives of the Sapele Division recovered a suspected stolen vehicle on March 30, 2026, following a tip-off from a concerned resident. The vehicle, a Toyota Sienna bus, was said to be conveying suspected vandalised items, including iron scraps and a gas cylinder.

According to the police, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush upon sighting officers. The vehicle has since been recovered and taken to the station, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Commending the operatives, CP Oyeniyi urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information, assuring that the Command remains committed to tackling crime across the state.

The Command also advised members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
