Ogun Police Arrest Three Over Alleged Murder, Foil Attempted Secret Burial

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged murder of a 38-year-old man and an attempted cover-up in Akute area of the state.

The suspects—Maureen Okirie, 35; Salia Karikari, 15; and Jubril Karikari, 12—were apprehended by detectives from the Ajuwon Division on Thursday, April 9, 2026, following an anonymous tip-off about suspicious activities.

Police said operatives who responded to the alert caught one of the suspects attempting to bury a blood-soaked corpse in a shallow grave, in what is believed to be an effort to conceal the crime.

The victim, identified as Stanley Okirie, was found with a severe head injury. Preliminary investigations indicated that he was allegedly attacked with a wooden pestle, while the other suspects—said to be relatives of the deceased—conspired in both the killing and the attempted cover-up.

The suspected murder weapon has been recovered, while the body has been deposited at Life Channel Mortuary, Olambe, for autopsy.

According to the command, the suspects are currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act, describing it as “cruel, inhumane, and deeply disturbing,” particularly as it involved family members.

He stressed that acts of violence and attempts to conceal crimes would not be tolerated under any circumstances, assuring the public of a thorough and transparent investigation.

The police boss also urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in efforts to rid society of criminal elements.

The command advised members of the public to make use of its emergency lines, including the Gateway Shield toll-free number, to report incidents and seek assistance.
