The FCT Police Command has strengthened security deployments across the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free festive period for residents and visitors.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this during a strategic Zoom meeting with Divisional Police Officers and Divisional Crime Officers across the command.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command has activated a joint security operation code-named “Operation Sweep FCT” in collaboration with other security agencies.
The operation involves personnel from the military, the Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Immigration Service and other relevant agencies.
The command explained that the operation had been divided into strategic sectors across the FCT, with security personnel conducting continuous patrols and coordinated operations aimed at preventing and responding swiftly to criminal activities.
As part of the security strategy, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit has been directed to carry out proactive sweeps of worship centres, recreational facilities and other locations expected to attract large gatherings during the celebrations.
The police also disclosed that intelligence-led raids on identified flashpoints and locations linked to illicit drug activities had been ordered, with strict instructions that all operations must be conducted professionally and in line with the law.
During the virtual meeting with DPOs and DCOs, the Commissioner of Police charged officers to remain proactive, vigilant and professional before, during and after the celebrations.
Sanusi emphasised the need for improved visibility policing, prompt response to distress calls and stronger community engagement.
He also warned officers against any form of unprofessional conduct, directing personnel to remain disciplined, properly dressed, courteous and respectful in their dealings with members of the public.
The command reassured residents of its commitment to the protection of lives and property and urged the public to remain security conscious and report suspicious movements or activities through designated emergency lines.
The police also wished Muslim faithful and residents of the FCT a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
