The Anambra State Police Command has urged parties involved in the dispute at St Faith Anglican Church, Awka, to seek a peaceful resolution through the church’s established hierarchy while respecting ongoing court proceedings.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, gave the advice on Friday, October 23, 2026, during a peace meeting with the parties at his office as part of efforts to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
According to a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the commissioner acknowledged the ongoing court proceedings and stressed the need for all parties to respect the judicial process while exploring appropriate channels within the church’s ecclesiastical structure to resolve their differences.
Oji Ama warned that parishioners and worshippers must not be drawn into the disagreement or made to suffer the consequences of differences among church leaders. He urged all concerned to demonstrate restraint, mutual respect and maturity in the interest of peace, unity and the sanctity of worship.
The police commissioner also cautioned against inflammatory statements, confrontational behaviour and other actions capable of escalating tensions, warning that the command would take appropriate lawful measures to prevent any breach of public peace.
He assured the parties that the police would remain impartial, address legitimate security concerns professionally and protect the rights of all concerned in accordance with the law.
The command called on church leaders, parishioners and other stakeholders to cooperate with ongoing peace efforts, respect due process and refrain from actions that could turn the dispute into a security challenge.
The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that the dispute is managed without compromising public order.
