Honourable Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, , has resigned from her position in the Federal Executive Council.

Her resignation makes her the third cabinet member to step down following the directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requiring political appointees seeking elective offices in 2027 to vacate their positions.
Onyejeocha announced her decision on Friday in a resignation letter shared via her social media platforms, coming three days after the March 31 deadline set by the President. However, she did not disclose the specific elective position she intends to contest.
In her message, the former minister expressed appreciation to the President, her colleagues in government, and Nigerians for the opportunity to serve.
She described her tenure as a significant chapter in her public service career, noting that her time in office was marked by efforts to strengthen workers’ rights, improve workplace safety, and expand employment opportunities.
Onyejeocha also commended staff of the Ministry of Labour and Employment for their dedication and professionalism, while thanking her constituents in Abia State for their continued support over the years.
The former lawmaker, who represented Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2023, said her resignation signals a new phase in her political journey, reiterating her commitment to national development.
Her exit follows similar resignations by the Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who also stepped down to pursue governorship ambitions in their respective states.
