Police Arrests Suspected Kidnapper, Uncovers Shallow Grave of Kidnap Victim in Edo

The Edo Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper after receiving receipt of a kidnapping case reported on 13/05/2025, that one Henry Ohiengbonmwan 56yrs was kidnapped on 09/05/2025 while in his farm located at Igueze Community in Ovia North East LGA.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Moses Yamu, Edo State Police PRO, he said, “The Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit commenced immediate investigation into the case and with the aid of technical intelligence led to the arrest of one Bassey Nyong Umeh 33yrs of Oron Community in Akwa Ibom State where he was arrested on 13/06/2025.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having conspired with four (4) others who were contracted by the deceased to work in his farm, kidnapped, killed and buried the victim in a shallow grave on the farm.
The suspect further led Operatives to the location of the shallow grave where the decomposed corpse of the victim was exhumed following all necessary procedures.
Efforts are emplaced to track down other fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc advises business owners to always properly profile workers before employing them for jobs to prevent such from happening.”
