Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers, rescued two abducted victims, and recovered arms and ransom in a coordinated operation in the state.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of April 9, 2026, was led by the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad in collaboration with the military. Police said the team trailed the suspects to their hideout along the Obulu-Uku Power Line following reported kidnapping incidents in Ibusa and Enu-Ani Mega City, Ogwashi-Uku.

According to the command, the suspects opened fire on sighting security operatives, leading to a gun duel. The operatives responded, resulting in the rescue of two female victims and the fatal wounding of two members of the kidnapping syndicate.

Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition, and N4.2 million suspected to be part of ransom collected from victims.

Police added that a combing operation is ongoing in the surrounding area to recover additional weapons and apprehend fleeing members of the gang. The injured suspects were taken to a hospital where they were later confirmed dead.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the bravery and professionalism of the operatives, as well as the support of the military, noting that inter-agency collaboration remains crucial in tackling violent crimes.

He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
