Residents of Naridon village in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, have alleged that about 30 people were killed after heavily armed gunmen invaded the community on Sunday night.
The casualty figure has yet to be officially confirmed, as the Kaduna State Police Command had not issued a statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers stormed the village in large numbers, killing dozens of people, while many others fled into nearby bushes for safety.
“So far, only 30 people have been confirmed dead, while many others are still missing because they ran for their lives. Several injured victims have been taken to medical centres for treatment,” the source said.
According to the resident, the assailants also set several houses ablaze and destroyed properties worth millions of naira, leaving the community devastated.
The attack has thrown the village into mourning, with fears that the death toll may increase as efforts continue to account for missing residents.
Describing the incident as another setback in the security situation affecting Kauru Local Government Area, the source urged the Kaduna State and Federal Governments, alongside security agencies, to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities.
The resident also called for the arrest and prosecution of those behind the attack to prevent further violence and allow displaced residents to return to their homes and farming activities.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comment.
