Several Feared Dead As Two Petrol Tankers Explode At Filling Station In Adamawa

Two petrol-laden tankers have gone on flames at an MRS filling station along the Numan Road, opposite the Jezco filling station near the Yola International Airport, Adamawa state.

The filling station is currently on fire following the explosion on Tuesday evening.

Several people are feared dead after an explosion occurred while a fuel tanker was discharging fuel with attendants present.

Access to and from the state capital is restricted as the flames continue to spread around the station and nearby areas.

While two fuel tankers have been consumed by the fire as of press time, firefighters from the Adamawa State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, and the American University of Nigeria (AUN) are working to contain the blaze.

Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion occurred while a truck was unloading petrol.

Several vehicles are reportedly engulfed in flames as firefighters work to contain the situation.

The area, which has more than 10 filling stations, is raising concerns that the fire may spread around the vicinity.

“We learn a loud bang and the filling station went up into flames while a fuel tanker was offloading,” a nearby businessman disclosed.

“The level of destruction of property is monumental,” another eyewitness said.

Authorities could not be reached as of the time of filing this report.
