The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspect, Chidi Ebere, over the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa area of the state.

Police said the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, April 8, 2026, when the suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu, 36, before attacking him in a bid to snatch the bike.
According to the command, the attack led to a violent struggle between the suspect and the victim. A witness at the scene raised the alarm, prompting officers from the Igbesa Division to respond swiftly.
The victim was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but was later confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.
Police operatives apprehended the suspect at the scene, while the motorcycle and a knife allegedly used in the attack were recovered as exhibits.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act and assured that justice would be served.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The command also advised members of the public to make use of its emergency lines, including the Gateway Shield toll-free number and other dedicated contacts, to report crimes and seek assistance.
