Final-year students of Taraba State University, Jalingo, have appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to intervene in the dispute between the state government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to ensure their final examinations hold as scheduled.
The students are expected to begin their final examinations on September 29, 2026, but said the threat of an indefinite strike by the university’s ASUU chapter could disrupt the process and delay their graduation.
The appeal was contained in an open letter dated September 22 and signed by “Concerned Final Year Students” of the university.
The students urged Kefas to urgently engage the leadership of ASUU, TSU chapter, and address the issues behind the threatened industrial action before it affects their examinations.
They said any prolonged disruption could have serious consequences for students who have completed their academic requirements and are preparing to graduate.
According to them, a strike could also force students to incur additional accommodation and educational expenses while subjecting them to further psychological and financial pressure.
“We want to write our final exams and graduate in peace. Please save our academic future,” the students appealed.
They also called on the state government to provide assurances to students and parents that the examinations would proceed as scheduled.
The students commended Kefas for his administration’s education policies, particularly the free education initiative, describing him as a governor committed to the welfare of students.
Copies of the letter were also addressed to the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, the Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, the Chairman of ASUU, TSU chapter, and the Department of State Services in Taraba State.
