The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the Kwale Police Division in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was conducted on June 25, 2026, after security operatives received credible intelligence that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road.
Acting swiftly on the information, the joint security team mobilised to the scene, where the suspects attempted to flee on sighting the operatives.
During the operation, one of the suspects sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment, while another was successfully arrested.
The suspects were identified as 28-year-old Osakwe Sunday and 34-year-old Ekene Obocha.
Police also recovered the vandalised electric cables, which have been taken into custody as exhibits.

He also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and law enforcement across the state.
