The Delta State Police Command has rescued a 23-year-old kidnap victim, arrested eight suspects in separate operations and recovered three firearms, 26 live cartridges and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, October 24, 2026, by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, following intelligence-led operations conducted across the state between October 20 and 23.

In the first operation, police operatives attached to the Owa-Oyibu Division, working with local volunteer groups, rescued a 23-year-old man who was allegedly abducted by two suspected kidnappers at Owa-Alero on October 19.

The victim was reportedly seized in front of his residence and dragged into a nearby bush. Following a report by his brother, the police launched a search of the surrounding area and rescued him the next day. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

In another operation on October 23, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, raided a hotel in Abraka suspected of being used for drug-related activities. Six suspected cultists were arrested, while a bag containing a firearm and substances suspected to be Indian hemp was recovered. The police said some individuals fled upon sighting the operatives.

The command also reported the arrest of a 62-year-old man, Richard Nmorsi, following a search of his residence in Ekuku-Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, on October 21. Operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), Sector III, Ubuluku, recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel firearm, 24 live cartridges and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp during the operation, which was conducted under a search warrant.

Similarly, on October 23, SAKU operatives arrested a 56-year-old man, Amechi Osemeke, at his residence in the same community. A search conducted under a duly obtained warrant led to the recovery of a serviceable double-barrel firearm and one live cartridge. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the weapon.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for their efforts and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, recovering illegally possessed firearms and protecting communities across the state.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police, assuring them that the command would sustain its operations to safeguard lives and property.
