Terrorists Bomb Niger Bridge to Disrupt Troop Operation

Suspected terrorists on Monday detonated explosives on a bridge along Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, in what appears to be an effort to hinder troop movements amid ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2 a.m., according to sources. The damaged bridge connects the Luma, Babana, and Agwara communities—areas that have faced repeated attacks in recent times.

Residents said the destruction has also disrupted activities at the Babana border market, which holds every Monday, as traders were unable to access the area.

The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the attack, stating that the perpetrators—believed to be operating from Kainji National Park—used an improvised explosive device (IED) to carry it out.

He said a report received at about 6:30 a.m. indicated that the bridge was targeted earlier in the day in what appears to be an attempt to undermine security operations, adding that monitoring is ongoing while clearance operations have been intensified.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that a commercial vehicle carrying eight passengers reportedly struck another IED along the Nuku-Woro road, killing all occupants. Residents suspect the device was planted by bandits.

The police, however, have yet to confirm the reported deaths of the travellers.
