The Kwara State Government has confirmed an explosion in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area, heightening security concerns in a region already grappling with recent attacks.

The Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, disclosed the incident on Monday via a WhatsApp platform, noting that it involved an improvised explosive device (IED) that detonated along a road near the community.
According to him, the explosion occurred on Monday morning as a vehicle passed over the device. A male occupant died instantly, while a woman travelling with a child sustained injuries.
Ajakaye added that the injured woman has been taken to a hospital and is responding to treatment, while the child was unharmed.
The development has sparked renewed fear among residents, many of whom are still unsettled by previous attacks in the area.
Also reacting, the Special Assistant on Media to the Kaiama Local Government Chairman, ZulQharnain Shero Musa, confirmed that the explosion resulted in casualties, although the exact number remains unclear. He said preliminary findings suggest the IED may have been planted by suspected insurgents.
The latest incident comes weeks after a deadly February attack on the Woro community, during which suspected gunmen reportedly invaded the area in the early hours, firing indiscriminately, killing residents, and destroying homes and property.
That assault displaced several families, disrupted livelihoods, and prompted calls for increased security presence. With the renewed violence, residents are again urging authorities and security agencies to take decisive steps to protect lives and prevent further attacks.
