Justine Madugu, head coach of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, has declared that his side has no option but victory against Zambia in tonight’s CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) clash, insisting the team is determined to revive its campaign and keep its FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification hopes alive.
Madugu made the remarks ahead of the crucial encounter, stressing that Nigeria must bounce back from its disappointing 3-2 defeat to Malawi in the opening match of the tournament.
“It’s win or nothing. We know perfectly well what’s at stake,” Madugu said, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The Super Falcons coach said the players are fully aware of the importance of the match and are determined to correct the mistakes that cost them victory in their opening fixture.
“We want to be at the World Cup, and we will do everything to correct the mistakes of the first match,” he added.
Nigeria heads into the contest under pressure after the opening defeat, while Zambia will be full of confidence following a resounding 6-0 victory over Egypt.
The outcome of the match is expected to play a decisive role in Nigeria’s bid to progress in the competition and remain on course for qualification for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup.
