Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a suspected robbery operation in Ota, killing one suspect and recovering two vehicles, a locally made pistol, ammunition and several items suspected to have been stolen.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Ijaba, Iyesi, Ota, following a distress call from a resident. The police said a patrol team from Onipanu Division, under the Ota Area Command, responded to the report at about 1:45 a.m.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspected robbers opened fire on sighting the operatives, leading to an exchange of gunfire in which one suspect was neutralised. Other members of the gang reportedly escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.

A search of the scene led to the recovery of a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry, as well as several suspected stolen items, including HP and Dell laptops, a PlayStation console, four mobile phones, a Samsung television, a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, clothing and other household items.

The police also recovered a locally made pistol, two live cartridges and seven expended cartridges from the deceased suspect. Other items found included a Tecno phone, three passport photographs, an MTN SIM pack, two National Identification Number (NIN) cards, an OPay ATM card and cash.

The Command said efforts had been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects, particularly those who might have sustained gunshot injuries. It added that investigations were ongoing to establish the ownership of the recovered vehicles and other exhibits and determine their possible links to other criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, sustained patrols and rapid response to security threats.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the police, assuring them of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
