The Federal Government has appealed to the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) to shelve its planned nationwide strike scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025, over a dispute with the Dangote Group concerning unionisation rights of its employees.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, urged NUPENG and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to withdraw the red alert issued to affiliate unions, assuring that the Ministry has intervened and convenes a conciliation meeting to resolve the matter.
Dingyadi emphasized the strategic importance of the petroleum sector to Nigeria’s economy, warning that even a day’s strike would cause huge revenue losses and untold hardship for citizens.
