The Federal Government has launched a National Agricultural Traceability and Environmental Monitoring Framework to protect Nigeria from losing over 4 billion in annual export dollars revenue due to the European Union’s new Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR).

This initiative was announced as the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, released a White Paper outlining Nigeria’s EUDR compliance strategy and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).
Under the MoU, NASRDA will provide satellite imagery, real-time monitoring, geospatial mapping, and technical expertise, while the Ministry will handle farmer registration, policy integration, and nationwide implementation of the framework.
The Minister described the development as the beginning of a new era where data, science, and trust will determine the competitiveness of agricultural economies.
He emphasised that the European Union will only recognise a unified national traceability system and will not accept fragmented, state-level efforts.
