Freed Kankara Boys: No ransom was paid-Masari

Six days after their abduction, students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara in Katsina State have been freed, the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, said.

Earlier in a video, the terror group, Boko Haram, claimed responsibility of the abduction and showed in a video some of the boys believed to have been abducted from the school pleading for safe return home.

It was earlier reported how gunmen, last week, attacked the public school in Kankara and abducted over 300 students.

Inuwa told reporters Thursday night that the freed students are being transported from Tsafe town in Zamfara to the Katsina government house tonight.

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to address the students tomorrow morning.

In a related development,Governor of Katsina State,Aminu Masari has said that ransom was not paid before kidnappers freed hundreds of schoolboys kidnapped from Kankara part of the state.

He said the boys, kidnapped last week, were released after negotiations with the kidnappers whom he described as bandits. He did not, however, say what the bandits got in return for freeing the students.
