The Federal University Dutse (FUD), Jigawa State, has taken disciplinary action against 22 students over offences ranging from criminal activities and cult-related conduct to drug abuse, cyberbullying and sexual assault.
The university expelled 12 students, rusticated five others and issued warning letters to five students following recommendations considered at the 20th meeting of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
The institution’s spokesman, Abdullahi Yahaya Bello, disclosed this in a statement issued to DAILY POST.
The statement said the disciplinary decisions were approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ahmad Mohammed Gumel, after consideration of the committee’s report.
Of the 12 students expelled, six were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, while two others were sanctioned for robbery and cult-related activities.
Another student was expelled over phone theft, while two others were found guilty of drug abuse on campus.
The five students who were rusticated were sanctioned over attempted sexual assault and cyberbullying. Four were suspended from the university for two semesters, while the remaining student was rusticated for one semester.
The university also issued warning letters to five students over offences including cyberbullying, attempted sexual assault and drug abuse committed off campus.
FUD said the affected students were drawn from different faculties and departments, adding that the sanctions followed due consideration of their cases by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
