The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a warning to motorists queuing for fuel at various filling stations in the state, not to cause traffic congestion for other road users.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, gave the warning on Sunday as he deployed additional officers to monitor traffic around fuel stations across the state.
According to him, the increased deployment of officers was necessary due to reports of long queues at filling stations caused by motorists who park indiscriminately, blocking roads as they wait to purchase fuel.
Bakare-Oki expressed dissatisfaction with the chaotic behavior of some drivers, saying that the way and manner they queue disrupt the smooth flow of traffic around petrol stations.
“The current fuel scarcity is not an excuse to obstruct and disrupt traffic in Lagos,” he stated.
The LASTMA boss emphasized, “We want our roads to be free-flowing; fuel queues should not become a burden for other road users in Lagos.”
While reiterating that effective traffic management is essential for achieving a seamless multi-modal transportation system in Lagos, he called for full cooperation from the public to ensure that the THEMES+ agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration results in positive socio-economic development and enhanced security of lives and property.
