Former President Goodluck Jonathan has clarified that the incident that occurred in Guinea Bissau was not a coup but a stage-managed plot by President Umaro Embalo to thwart democratic governance.

The Former President, who addressed the media in Abuja, stated that a transparent electoral process was hijacked, urging the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to rise up.
Goodluck Jonathan was among the African leaders stranded during the coup, as he led the joint mission of AU ECOWAS and the West African Elders Forum monitoring the Presidential election in Guinea-Bissau held on Sunday, 23rd November 2025.
It was learnt that the presidential jet of Ivory Coast that carried the Nigerian Former leader to come back and arrived with his team at Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport, Abuja on Thursday 27 November 2025.
