Gov Makinde Condemns State of Emergency in Rivers, Calls It Illegal

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has strongly condemned the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.

On Tuesday, President Tinubu suspended Governor Similayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and the State House of Assembly for six months, appointing Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Rtd.) as Sole Administrator.

Governor Seyi Makinde described the move as an illegal suspension of democracy that must be opposed by all well-meaning Nigerians.

“I stand firmly against this unconstitutional act. Suspending the executive and legislative arms of government is a dangerous precedent that undermines our democracy,” Makinde stated.

He emphasized the need to uphold democratic principles, urging Nigerians to defend fairness, equity, and justice.

Makinde also praised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for taking a stand, revealing that the PDP Governors’ Forum had resolved to challenge Tinubu’s action in court.

“We cannot sit back and watch nearly three decades of democratic progress be destroyed,” he declared.
