The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reviewed a petition for the recall of the Senator Natasha Akpoti who is representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The petition, submitted with six bags of documents containing signatures from over half of the 474,554 registered voters, was discussed at INEC’s weekly meeting on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

However, INEC noted that the petitioners failed to provide a definite contact address and multiple phone numbers as required by Clause 1(f) of its 2024 Regulations and Guidelines for Recall. Only one phone number was submitted, making communication difficult.
INEC emphasized that a recall is solely the prerogative of registered voters and assured that once all submission requirements are met, the verification process will commence using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). The process will be transparent, with petitioners, the affected senator, accredited observers, and the media allowed to monitor proceedings.
The Commission is now working to notify the petitioners of the missing details and reaffirmed its commitment to due process, urging the public to disregard social media speculations.
