JUST IN: Military Declares “Total Control” of Guinea-Bissau, Closes Borders and Suspends Election

By our Reporter

Military officers in Guinea-Bissau announced on Wednesday that they have taken “total control” of the country, suspending the ongoing electoral process and closing all borders, just three days after legislative and presidential elections were held.

Earlier, gunfire was reported near the presidential palace as soldiers in uniform blocked access to the main road leading to the building, effectively securing key areas in the capital, Bissau.

The military delivered the declaration in a statement read at army headquarters, AFP journalists reported from the scene, signaling a dramatic escalation in the country’s political crisis.
