Lagos imposes 24-hour curfew

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has imposed a 24hour curfew in Lagos as a result of peaceful protest that has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well-being of our society.

According to the Governor, “Lives and Limbs have been lost as criminal and miscreant are not hiding under the umbrella of these protests to unleash mayhem on our state.

“As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to the movement, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state”, said Sanwo-Olu

He further said” I, therefore, hereby impose a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the State as from 4pm today, 20th October, 2020. Nobody, except essential service providers and first responders must be found on the streets”.

It would be recalled that protest against police brutality, extortion and killings kick started in Lagos two weeks ago and it had since been peaceful until thugs hijacked the protest thereby blocking major roads and setting on fire police stations and other facilities which possess threat to the entire well-being of the people.

Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu in a bid to end police brutality, by virtue of Section 5 of Tribunals of Inquiry Law, Laws of Lagos State, 2015 inaugurated an 8-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution which will receive and investigate complaints of police brutality in Lagos adding that two representatives will be part of the panel.

The Governor also set aside 200 million as compensation for victims of police brutality.
