 LASU Students’ Union President Suspended Indefinitely For Alleged Financial Misappropriation, Others

The Lagos State University Students’ Parliamentary Council has suspended the 34th Students’ Union President, Comrade Tobun Haroun Dolapo, for alleged financial misappropriation, lack of accountability, among others.

The indefinite suspension was announced in a press statement issued on Tuesday, 25th June, and jointly signed by Rt. Hon. Hassan Haleemah Abimbola, the Speaker, and Hon. Kasim Abdullah Ayobami, the 34th LASUSU SPC Clerk.

The statement said the resolution for the suspension was reached after a thorough investigation into allegations of financial misappropriation, lack of accountability, unconstitutional closure of the Transport Management Committee Office, and flagrant disregard for the provisions of the constitution.

Consequently, Comr. Oladiran Mercy, the union Vice President, has been appointed in acting capacity.

The statement read, “Under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Hassan Haleemah Abimbola, the 34th LASUSU SPC hereby announces the immediate and indefinite suspension of Comr. Tobun Haroun Dolapo from the position of President of the Lagos State University Students’ Union Students’ Executive Council.

“This resolution was reached after a thorough investigation into allegations of financial misappropriation, lack of accountability, unconstitutional closure of the Transport Management Committee Office, and flagrant disregard for the provisions of the constitution.

“Furthermore, it was established that the president was guilty of providing an unauthorized account number for the collection of revenue from union bus usage, specifically a Moniepoint account registered as LASUSU TMC owned by MUIIZ OGUNDEJI.

“He was also found guilty of hindering the effectiveness of the Transport Management Committee by undermining their duties.

“The president was additionally guilty of impersonating the Acting Transport Management Committee Chairman by assigning the duties of the Acting Chairman to another person (the suspended TMC Chairman) without proper notification.

“As a result, the 34th LASUSU SPC has unanimously decided to suspend Comr. Tobun Haroun Dolapo from his role as President of the Lagos State University Students’ Union Students’ Executive Council.

“Consequently, in accordance with the supreme LASUSU constitution, Comr. Oladiran Mercy, the Vice President, will immediately assume the role of Acting President of the Lagos State University Students’ Union. This decision underscores our commitment to upholding integrity and accountability within the union. The 34th LASUSU SPC prioritizes transparency and expects all members to adhere to the highest ethical standards.”

When contacted, the 34th Public Relations Officer for the Union, Comrade Ibiade Benjamin, confirmed the suspension, declining to comment on the issue.
