The Methodist Campus Fellowship, on Wednesday 20th March, 2024, marked its 40th anniversary, noting that it had grown its leaps and bounds in the last four decades.
Speaking at the anniversary held at the Prelate House in the Yaba area of Lagos State, the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Oliver Aba, recalled that the MCF started on the campus of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State but had now grown to 120 chapters with 5,000 members.
The Prelate said, “In the last 40 years, the Methodist Campus Fellowship has grown from a one-chapter fellowship at the then Obafemi Awolowo University to about 120 chapters with about 5,000 members, comprising both Methodist and non-Methodists.
“The Methodist Campus Fellowship spreads all over the tertiary institutions in the East, West, and northern parts of the country; indeed, the fellowship is waxing stronger and stronger in the Lord.”
In his remarks, the MCF National Minister, Olomola Olalekan, appealed for more funding to help the fellowship execute all its programmes.
Olalekan stressed that for the MCF to fulfill its obligations as a fellowship and carry out its planned programmes, the conference must offer financial support.
Also speaking at the event, the Secretary of Conference of Methodist Church Nigeria, Babatunde Taiwo, noted that the resources which comprise a directory of each Methodist Campus Fellowship Chapter must be examined.
“We request that the attachment of schools to Dioceses be reviewed. The documents containing the list of all Methodist Campus Fellowship Chapters have been compiled for upgrade from the last edition produced during the tenure of the Right Rev., Prof. Obeka. We will submit this to the Department of Evangelism and Discipleship.
“Once again, Your Eminence, Methodist Campus Fellowship is solidly behind you in pursuing the visions of the church to be spiritually vibrant and be one of the largest churches in Nigeria. MCF, as the battle axe of the Lord, shall rise and build.”
Present at the occasion are the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria His Eminence Eminence Dr Oliver Aba, Secretary of Conference Rt Rev Babatunde Taiwo, Bishop Of Evangelism, Conference Media Director Very Rev Opeyemi Awe and all other dignatories.
The events for the day ends with lightning of the 40th Anniversary torch.
