Nigeria and the United States are strengthening military cooperation, particularly in counter-terrorism and intelligence sharing.

A statement by Leah Katung Babatunde, Special Assistant to Minister on Media, says General Christopher Gwabin Musa, Minister of Defence, stated this in Abuja while receiving Major General Matthew Brown, Commander of the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa.
The statement reviews ongoing joint security initiatives and explored a more result-oriented framework for future defence collaboration.
General Musa identified specialised training for special forces, intelligence sharing, border surveillance, counter-IED support, and defence infrastructure modernisation as key areas for enhanced cooperation.
The Minister also acknowledged U.S. support to counter-terrorism operations in the North-East, particularly around the Lake Chad Basin, while Major General Matthew Brown commended Nigerian troops involved in operations against ISIS-affiliated groups in Africa.
