Nigeria is already gearing up for a successful outing at the Paralympic Games as Para athletes contingents depart for Germany early in the week for their training tour in preparation for the Paralympic games scheduled to begin on August 28 to September 11, 2024.
Speaking shortly before the contingent’s departure, Teclar Opara, Director National Sports Festival and Paralympic Games, disclosed that about 37 Athletes and officials left the shores of the country for the tour which will last for 10 days as they are expected to depart Germany for Paris on August 22, 2024 for the main events.
Nigeria will be featuring 27 athletes who are expected to contest in four sports which includes Para Athletics, Para Badminton Powerlifting and Para Table Tennis.
While addressing the athletes at the airport before their departure, Mr. Sunday Odebode, President Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, expressed optimism over the athletes potentials to come out top on the table, urging them to put in the usual high level of patriotism and resilience to secure a podium finish throughout the contest. He reminded them that Nigerians’ expectations of them are high, especially following the woeful outing of Team Nigeria at the just concluded Olympic Games.
