Phone Dealer Arrested in Lagos for Alleged Blackmail of Female Customer

A phone dealer, identified as Olatunbo Praise, has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly blackmailing a female customer using her private photos and videos obtained without her consent.

The suspect, who worked at a phone shop in Ikeja, was accused of secretly transferring the customer’s intimate content to his device while assisting her with a phone upgrade.

According to his statement to authorities, he admitted to the act, saying he Airdropped the materials from the woman’s phone during the transaction and later used them to threaten her.

The victim said she had visited the shop about two weeks earlier to swap her iPhone 15 Pro Max for a newer model. She explained that the routine inspection of her phone at the store did not raise any suspicion at the time, although she eventually declined the offer due to dissatisfaction with the price.

She alleged that days later, the suspect contacted her using an international number and sent her private images in an attempt to blackmail her.

In response, the woman said she devised a plan to apprehend him by posing as a prospective buyer using a different phone number. When the suspect agreed to deliver a phone to her location, he was intercepted, restrained, and subsequently handed over to the police.

Authorities have since taken the suspect into custody, and investigations are ongoing.
