The management of University of Lagos (UNILAG) has reaffirmed that ongoing semester examinations will continue as scheduled despite reports that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNILAG chapter, directed its members to suspend services over alleged unpaid Consolidated Academic Teaching Allowances (CATA).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the university management said it had noted media reports about the directive reportedly issued during the union’s congress held on March 10, 2026.
According to the institution, due process was not followed in the declaration. However, it said it remained committed to the welfare of staff and students and had continued to engage the union’s executive to resolve the issues raised.
The university also noted that students were currently at a critical stage of the academic calendar, as semester examinations were already underway.
Management warned that any disruption at this period could adversely affect students, particularly those scheduled to commence the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), internships, as well as law graduates preparing to proceed to the Nigerian Law School.
While discussions with the union leadership continue, the university announced that examinations scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2026, would proceed as planned.
However, management added that examinations for courses where students had already been informed by their Deans or Heads of Department that they would not hold would be rescheduled, with new dates to be communicated later.
The institution further stated that all examinations would continue as scheduled from Thursday, March 12, while deans had been directed to make the necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise.
The university management also appealed to members of the academic community to remain calm and continue their lawful academic activities as discussions with the union progress toward an amicable resolution.
