The 11th Federation of African University Sports (FASU) Games kicked off today, September 21, 2024, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with a grand opening ceremony.
The event welcomed athletes from all 43 FASU member countries, promoting unity among young people in Africa through the motto “Unite, Compete and Excel.”
The ceremony, held at UNILAG’s Sports Centre at 4:00 p.m, featured prominent guests, including Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, FASU President and Egyptian Minister of Sport and Youths, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, UNILAG Vice Chancellor, and Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, LASU Vice Chancellor.
The highlights of the opening ceremony include: Parade of Athletes and Teams, Presentation of flags, Unveiling of the 11th FASU Games Mascot, Lighting of the Torch by the FASU President, and cultural dance showcasing all the major culture in every part of Africa.
