The Rivers State Police Command has issued a warrant of arrest for Gabriel “General” Asabuja, a former Niger Delta militants leader, following his involvement in a viral video amid local government council disputes.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, denounced Asabuja’s actions, citing widespread public concern and emphasising that law enforcement would not tolerate such behavior.
Disu confirmed that efforts to locate Asabuja were underway, despite his reluctance to cooperate.
The state has been in turmoil since a conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and predecessor Nyesom Wike began last year, exacerbated by recent disagreements over local council leadership.
Governor Fubara’s decision to appoint a caretaker committee sparked protests and tensions among Wike’s supporters, prompting police warnings against violence and assurances of readiness to intervene.
