The Delta State Police Command has arrested two men, aged 62 and 56, over alleged unlawful possession of firearms in Ekuku-Agbor community, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, SAKU, Sector III, Ubuluku, according to the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe.

Edafe disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, explaining that the operation was carried out on October 21, 2026, at the residence of the first suspect, identified as Richard Nmorsi, 62.

He said the operatives conducted a search of the premises after obtaining a valid search warrant.

The operation reportedly led to the recovery of a locally fabricated single-barrel firearm, 24 live cartridges and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The police spokesperson added that Nmorsi was arrested and the recovered items taken into custody for further investigation.

In a related operation in the same community, the police arrested another suspect, Amechi Osemeke, 56, with a double-barrel firearm and one live cartridge.

Edafe said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms and determine whether the suspects had any links to criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at recovering illegally possessed weapons and dismantling criminal networks across the state.

Erale urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime.

He assured residents that the command would continue to take necessary measures to protect lives and property across Delta State.
