Pregnant Wife Seeks Justice Over Husband’s Disappearance, 5-year-old Son’s Death

Jennifer Johnson, a pregnant woman from Obolo in Mbano, Imo State, is pleading for justice after her husband, Bright Johnson, went missing and their five-year-old son was allegedly shot dead during a raid on December 26, 2024.

The raid was reportedly led by Amaze Chibuke, the community youth president, and armed men believed to be Department of State Services (DSS) personnel.

33-year-old Bright, a native doctor, was reportedly shot in the leg before being taken to an undisclosed location. His brother, Okechukwu, was also shot, and their young son was killed during the incident. Jennifer claims Chibuke, with whom Bright had a land dispute, led the attack with armed youths.

A commercial motorcyclist, detained alongside Bright but later released, informed Jennifer that her husband was being held in a secret DSS cell in Owerri. Despite several attempts by Bright’s father to see him at the DSS office, access has been denied, with officials redirecting him to different offices.

According to Jennifer, she has reported the incident to the police but says financial constraints have hindered progress. “The police told me to report the killing of my son at the division headquarters, but I cannot afford to mobilize them for an arrest,” she said.

She also accused Chibuke of framing her husband to justify the attack. “If nothing is fishy, why did Chibuke involve the DSS when the land dispute case was already with the police?” I want to know if my husband is alive. He doesn’t even know our son has been killed,” she said.

Chibuke has not responded to the allegations.
