President Donald Trump has announced that the United States Government will now officially recognise only two genders: male and female.
Speaking during his inauguration on Monday, January 20, Trump stated that his administration’s policy aims to end federal funding or recognition of other gender identities.
“I will also end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life. As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” he said.
The policy includes an executive order that will require settings such as prisons and shelters for migrants and rape victims to segregate individuals based on biological sex.
The order will also impact federal documents, including passports and end requirements at government facilities or workplaces, to refer to transgender people by their chosen pronouns.
