Sexual harassment Allegation: Senate passes vote of confidence on Akpabio

By our Reporter

Following the call on the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to step aside to allow unfettered investigation of the allegation of sexual harassment made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senate on Thursday passed a vote of confidence on his leadership.

The resolution of the Senate followed a motion by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele which was overwhelmingly approved by Senators.

Bamidele in his lead debate said the Senate has decided not to be distracted further by the controversy generated by its suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over her alleged misconduct.

He said the Senate would henceforth focus on its mandate of lawmaking and oversight and allow the judiciary to adjudicate on all issues pending before it based on the actions or inactions of the red chamber on the matter.

The Senate had on the 6th of March suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over alleged misconduct and disobedience to its Standing Rules.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had rejected the suspension claiming that it was calculated to deny her justice on her accusation of sexual harassment against the Senate President.
