Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation, narrowly escaped injury when his convoy was attacked by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
The incident occurred on September 1, 2025, as Malami was returning from a condolence visit to a family in the state capital.

The attackers, allegedly from the All Progressives Congress (APC) state headquarters, were armed with weapons and stones. They damaged 10 vehicles in Malami’s convoy and injured several of his supporters. Malami described the attack as “politically motivated,” stating that he was targeted solely because of his political affiliation.
Malami, a leader in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi, emphasized that he was in Birnin Kebbi to pay condolences, not to engage in political campaigns. He condemned the attack, saying it was “painful and unfortunate” that his convoy was ambushed by thugs.
The APC in Kebbi State has denied any involvement in the attack. The party’s Publicity Secretary, Isa Abubakar As-Salafi, condemned the incident and described Kebbi as a peaceful state. As-Salafi alleged that security personnel attached to Malami’s convoy opened fire during the confrontation, escalating the situation.
The Kebbi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident and increased security measures in the state capital. The police commissioner warned political parties against holding unauthorized gatherings or campaigns, emphasizing the need to maintain peace and stability in the state.
