President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with the families of the victims affected by the recent tanker explosion in Enugu state.
Tinubu expressed his condolences in a statement issued on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, his special adviser on information and strategy.
The President also directed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and agencies in charge of enforcing traffic rules, to implement measures to prevent recurring fuel tanker explosions in the country.
According to reports, the fuel tanker spiralled out of control and burst into flames while navigating the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on Saturday.
Okwudili Ohaa, director of the Enugu State Fire Service, said the inferno, which raged for over an hour, left several people burnt to death and destroyed eight vehicles.
It comes just days after a similar incident in Niger State, which claimed over 80 lives.
In his message, Tinubu commiserated with the families of the deceased and the injured and prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and quick recovery for those receiving medical treatment.
The president called for caution and adherence to safety measures among road users, particularly fuel tanker operators.
Furthermore, he directed agencies in charge of enforcing traffic rules to implement measures to prevent recurring fuel tanker explosions nationwide.
