Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration will deliver uninterrupted electricity before his tenure ends in 2027.

Adelabu gave the assurance on Saturday while commissioning a new 1X15MVA 33/11KV injection substation in Ikotun-Egbe, Lagos. He said the government is implementing a multi-pronged strategy to address challenges in generation, transmission, and distribution.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda recognises energy as the backbone of economic growth and job creation. Nigerians can be assured of the President’s determination to achieve uninterrupted power supply before he leaves office,” he said.

Tinubu had promised during the 2023 campaign to achieve steady power supply within four years. Though critics, including the ADC’s Bolaji Abdullahi, have questioned the pace of progress, Adelabu maintained the target is still within reach by 2027.

He outlined key achievements under the administration:Passage of the 2023 Electricity Act, which decentralised the sector and activated 12 state electricity markets, A new National Integrated Electricity Policy after 24 years,Attraction of over $2bn in fresh investments,Increase in installed capacity from 13GW to 14GW, with a new peak generation of 5,801.44MW and record daily output of 128,370.75MWh in March 2025, Stabilisation of the grid through the Siemens Project, adding over 700MW in transmission capacity, Mobilisation of N700bn from FAAC and a $500m World Bank fund to deliver 3.45 million meters.
Adelabu admitted that challenges remain in the distribution segment, including high losses, low remittances, and frequent complaints. He pledged stronger collaboration with DisCos to improve service delivery.

He also commended Ikeja Electric for completing the substation in just 12 months, calling them one of Nigeria’s top-performing power distributors.
