Army Deactivates 24 Illegal Refineries, Arrests Suspected Oil Thieves in Rivers

Troops of the 6 Division Nigerian Army have arrested twenty nine suspected oil thieves as over sixty thousand liters of illegally refined products were confiscated.

This was disclosed in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, Acting Deputy Director public relations of the Nigerian Army.

According to the Army, twenty four illegal refineries sites were deactivated in Buguma and Asari-Toru local government area of Rivers state.

The arrested suspects were said to have been arrested in the line of Duty with sacks filled with illegally refined diesel in Ahoada creeks, while drums used by the oil thieves were also destroyed.

Meanwhile, a joint military patrol team has taken over the neighbouring creeks in Bayelsa and Delta communities to prevent the influx of oil thieves in transit to the states.
