The Federal Government has approved a 50 per cent reduction in fares on all train services operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation as part of efforts to ease transportation costs for Nigerians during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The Federal Ministry of Transportation disclosed that the fare discount will take effect from Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and remain valid until Monday, June 1, 2026.

According to a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Engr. Funsho Adebiyi, ticket prices on all NRC passenger train services nationwide have been reduced by half of the current approved rates during the period.

The ministry also announced that passengers who had already purchased tickets at the full fare before the announcement would receive a 50 per cent rebate.

The rebate, according to the statement, can be reused for train trips on or before June 1, 2026.

The government noted that train schedules and timetables would remain unchanged throughout the period.

The Federal Ministry of Transportation said the gesture was part of measures aimed at supporting Nigerians during the festive season and appreciated citizens for their continued support.

The ministry also wished Muslim faithful and all train passengers a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
